A new fitness trend that has popped up for women recently is strip or pole dancing classes. I have all sorts of issues with these.
From a fitness standpoint, take a close look at the women teaching these classes. They have fantastic upper bodies, really muscular and defined…but skinny little legs (I hate it just as much as when men have skinny legs). Pole dancing is great for an upper body work out, but you don’t do much with your legs other than swing them around.
Aside from the ridiculousness of it from the fitness standpoint, why on earth would you want to take these sorts of classes?? From my experience, the only women who take them are women with really low self-esteem, mostly either fat or ugly women, who do it solely for the purpose of stripping for someone who has never noticed them before or for their husbands who can’t stand to look at them.
Ladies, men want strippers to strip, not their wives. If you need to take strip dance classes to get a man, you have a whole other set of issues that can’t be addressed in a one hour session with Candy from the strip joint.
Go to yoga, you’ll get a lot more out of it.

Ya if you want to see a look of sincere disappointment watch a guys face as he walks up to “take a glance” in the room where one of those classes is being taught.
btw some stripping does take strong legs. Ya see you get two women, an 12X12 foot stage and you line them up facing away from one another….

I don’t get these classes at all either. I read about these “Mother/Daughter” strip/pole dancing classes. Umm… okay.

1) They aren’t strippers.
2) I don’t know who you’re looking at, but those legs look pretty meaty to me.
3) Speaking for myself, and most of the guys I know, having a woman who is self-confident enough to do that sort of thing is a hell of a turn on.
4) I don’t know anyone who’s overweight or unattractive who would do more than laugh at the idea of doing this sort of thing. In fact, I don’t know what demographics you’re looking at- but the women I know doing this are hot, and generally have any guy they want lining up already.
5) The impression that I get is that you’re condeming this without even trying it. Heck, by suggesting yoga you flatly say that you haven’t even looked at information on it- given that many of the positions for “floor work” are taken directly from yoga. How, exactly, is someone going to get more from just doing a type of excersize already incorporated in what you’re bashing?
6) Any excercise is going to focus on one area over another. Ballet is great for lower legs and core strength. It’s not what you’re looking for if you want an upper body workout. If someone walks miles a day for fun, they may not want more of a lower body workout… if someone dances ballet, choosing another form of dance might be what they’re looking for.
In short, while I’m not going to be doing this any time soon- if you’re going to insult it, doing some research first seems appropriate.
